StoryShort made $18,225 in MRR, verified by TrustMRR through Stripe on Oct 16, 2026. It's a video generator for "faceless" TikTok, YouTube and Instagram channels. Its pitch is about as hands-off as consumer software gets: "Creating engaging videos for Tiktok and Youtube on autopilot without lifting a finger." Founder Samuel Rondot has described building it alone, which makes it one of the best hands-off AI business ideas on the list to study.
What it sells and to whom
- Who pays: content creators running TikTok and YouTube channels. TrustMRR lists it as B2C with "~27,000 users". The homepage now says "Trusted by 90,000+ creators" (self-reported).
- Price: Starter $39, Growth $69, Influencer $129, Ultra $199 (TrustMRR).
- What they get (homepage): StoryShort "writes the script, plans every scene, picks the voices and cuts the film". It keeps characters' faces and voices the same across scenes, offers voice cloning and adds word-by-word captions. It can also "repurpose" a video that did well in your niche.
How the agents run it (what's automated)
The product runs a full production line for each customer:
- Ideas. "Pick the creators you want to follow. Every day, StoryShort checks their new videos and shows you the ones doing much better than they normally do."
- Production. Click generate and it "writes the script, plans every scene, makes the images and clips, and adds the voice". An AI editor can redo a single shot from a plain-English request.
- Publishing. "Set your schedule once. StoryShort makes the videos and posts them to TikTok, YouTube and Instagram."
- Series mode. "Set a series up once. StoryShort picks the next topic in your niche, writes it, makes it and posts it, without you opening the app."
Once a customer has set up a series, the agent picks the topic, makes the video and posts it without them.
Samuel also uses the product to market itself. In the Starter Story interview he says he built a feature that "will automatically publish daily UGC style video about your product on YouTube channels, Tik Tok and Instagram."
What still needs a human
From the founder's own account (Starter Story, Jul 26, 2025):
- Paid acquisition. "I always start by running ads... on Google and meta." Ads need a budget and someone watching results.
- SEO and affiliates. After ads came SEO ("once it works, it's almost free traffic and it compounds") and an affiliate program, which "create virality because I have many people doing a YouTube video about story short".
- Running costs. He said StoryShort cost "around $5,000 per month" to run at the time, when it was "making around $20,000 per month". Video generation isn't cheap, so pricing and credits need attention.
- Product work. The homepage lists far more than the original "prompt to short video": consistent characters, talking characters, an AI editor and repurposing.
Agent Money List rates StoryShort nearly autonomous (our estimate). The software delivers the product, while the founder runs growth, support and improvements.
Tools/stack
From the interview: "all my apps are built with NexJS [Next.js] and NodeJS", deployed on Vercel, with Stripe for payments. He uses Ahrefs for SEO research and outrank.so for automated blog articles. TrustMRR lists "Backend" and "Stripe". The AI model vendors aren't named in these sources.
Numbers
- Verified MRR: $18,225 (TrustMRR via Stripe, last updated Oct 16, 2026; from entries.json). The same snapshot shows $21,551 for the last 30 days, $589,607 all-time and 329 active subscriptions.
- Latest page check (Oct 20, 2026): TrustMRR now shows MRR $19,137, 347 active subscriptions, $21,966 for the last 30 days and $591,369 all-time.
- Founded: August 2024, France (TrustMRR).
- Founder statements (Jul 2025, not verified): around $20K/month, around 4,000 customers, around $5K/month in costs.
- Our estimates for a copycat: about $75 to start and about $65/month to run (entries.json, labelled est.).
How you could build a version of this hands-off
Samuel's method is the useful part, and he says it plainly: "never build something that doesn't already exist and isn't already successful". His filters were "I will use it myself", "I can see that it already works", true demand, and "simple enough to maintain".
- Find proven demand. Look for founders sharing MRR or Stripe screenshots. He calls that "the ultimate proof". Check where their traffic comes from with an SEO tool.
- Choose a narrow format. StoryShort started with prompt-to-short-video. Pick one format, such as story shorts or product UGC ads, before adding more.
- Chain existing APIs. Script, then voice, then visuals, then captions, then render, then post. Build the MVP fast. He says "build an MVP in two weeks and launch ads immediately."
- Sell credits, not unlimited. Generation costs real money per video, so tiers should cap usage, like StoryShort's $39–$199 plans.
- Automate posting. Let customers set a schedule once. Posting to the platforms is what turns a tool into "autopilot". Read each platform's API and content rules before you build.
- Market with your own product. Run faceless channels about your product, generated by your product. Add a commission-based affiliate program so creators sell for you.
The hands-off part is delivery. Ads, SEO and affiliates still need you, at least at the start.
